Posing can be hard, here are some things to consider when capturing the most authentic moments of your clients!
Make sure you make your clients feel comfortable right from the start. If they don’t feel comfortable, it will show in all of the images. Here are some ways to help them feel comfortable-
Play music, consider asking them what their favorite music genre is.
Get to know them before the actual shoot. This can be as easy as a phone call or coffee date.
Send a questionnaire before your session.
Give your clients prompts so the session helps to bring out their natural, unposed movements. Example- run over to your man and give him the cheesiest kiss.
Look for natural expressions/ movements. If your couple did something cute that wasn’t necessarily prompted, make sure to document that. You are telling their story through images so document what’s happening in the moment.
Have fun with it! The more you make it like a fun date for them, the more they will feel comfortable to try new poses/ ideas you may have.
Let them know it’s ok to feel awkward at times. If they haven’t been in front of a camera before, feeling awkward is completely normal and they will loosen up throughout the session.
Give them constant encouragement/ feedback. When you give them confirmation that they’re doing amazing in front of the camera, they will trust you even more and feel even more comfortable!
I hope this little guide helps you pose your clients in a way to capture the most REAL moments. Remember, if you aren’t comfortable then your clients won’t be! Believe in your skills, you are better than you think you are!
