Are you a photographer that always gets nervous when it comes to shooting on sunny days? That was 100% me until I practiced more and actually surprised myself with jaw-dropping images. Although shooting around 12pm in direct sunlight isn’t ideal, sometimes we have no choice.
Here are my top 5 tips when it comes to shooting in direct sunlight!
Always shoot in manual. This will give you 100% control over your camera so you are 100% more confident! Bump that shutter speed high and keep your ISO as low as it can go. When shooting a couple, I like to keep my aperture around 2.0- 2.5 for a “creamy” look.
Avoid weird shadows. Sometimes having your model face the sun like the photo above can make for a really cool photo.
Editing works wonders. Use editing as a way to clean up skin tons, add in more warmth and even fix weird shadows. I edit on Lightroom CC.
Find an area with shade like trees or the back of a building. I will always do this when there is 3 or more involved in the photo.
Use a lens cap if you want to avoid any unnecessary sun flares.
